The son of the Mayor of Miami-Dade County was recently injured in a bizarre Car Accident.  Carlos Gimenez, Jr. was a passenger in his friend’s car.  His friend started to drive through the intersection at Flagler Street and 42nd Avenue when another vehicle drove through a red light and slammed into his car.  What happened next is the bizarre part.  CBS News reports Gimenez, Jr. as stating that there was a male driving the vehicle at the time of the collision with two female passengers.  Immediately following the accident, a female passenger jumped out of the car and got into the drivers seat while the original male driver got into a different seat.  The female driver then told police that she was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision and did not have a drivers license because she was visiting from Cuba.  The vehicle had a paper temporary license plate.  The female who reported that she was behind the wheel was arrested for driving without a proper license and identification.  The male was arrested for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive his vehicle.  A Miami Police Department investigation included pulling the “Red Light” Camera footage of the intersection.  The footage showed exactly what Gimenez, Jr. had stated – the other vehicle in the accident switched drivers.

CBS News attempts to speak with the woman that jumped into the drivers seat were unsuccessful.  Attempts to speak with the vehicle owner, Alain Alfonso, had the same result.  Mr. Alonso is the man that was reported to have switched seats with the other woman while his mother was another passenger in the vehicle.  If proven true, this conduct is reprehensible.  Luckily Gimenez, Jr. convinced the police to pull the footage to show the illegal activities that followed the traffic collision.  One would assume that further criminal charges will follows.  Additionally, as Mr. Gimenez, Jr. was injured, he has the option to file a civil lawsuit against the vehicle owner for his injuries.  We wish him the best.
